Emma Yarwood, Bolton CBT

WHAT IS CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of talking therapy which aims to examine how our thoughts (cognitive) influence what we feel, and how we then behave (behaviour).

When we have negative thoughts, we are likely to have negative feelings, which then, to manage these thoughts and feelings our behaviour is influenced. CBT helps you to manage negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, to break from the vicious negative cycle that is causing you distress and create a more realistic, and balanced outlook.

CBT is a collaborative, structured therapy between client and therapist. Assessment is made, and treatment goals are decided upon. Together we will work towards resolving your difficulties, in our therapy sessions, and also by your completion of homework tasks given to allow you to practice new skills learned at home.

CBT has been shown to be effective in treating many conditions including:

Anxiety

Depression

Social Anxiety Disorder

Generalised Anxiety Disorder

Low-self Esteem

Specific Phobia
